Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/physical/mental pain and trauma.
Working together we will locate your brainspot. This brainspot connects to your unprocessed trauma that is at a deeper level of your cognitive (thinking) brain. When we activate this brainspot in our sessions by using a pointer and your eye gaze, it allows this information (trauma, painful memories, anxiety etc) to surface. You will notice the feelings in your body, (chest, throat, feet etc) as tension is created. Sensory trauma can also be activated, such as smells and sounds.
As you remain fixed on your brainspot, this allows these feelings to be gradually released until there is no longer any tension or the tension has been reduced significantly. With Brainspotting, I say very little as it disrupts your healing process. You will be stepping into your memories vs avoiding them as you might have in the past and this is when the healing will take place.
Can Brainspotting help me?
Brainspotting is a therapeutic tool that can be used to treat a variety of issues. It can help resolve the physical and emotional pain that is keeping you stuck in a way that traditional therapy is unable to. This type of therapy is also very beneficial for clients who tend to shut down their emotions or feelings connected to their trauma. Please also keep in mind that sometimes memories or trauma that you have suppressed for years may become activated.
Brainspotting combines elements of EMDR with mindfulness and somatic (body-based) awareness, but it allows clients to access trauma in a way that bypasses the thinking, analytical brain. Since its development, Brainspotting has gained recognition for its effectiveness in treating trauma, anxiety, PTSD, and other issues, offering a way to reach and resolve deeply embedded emotional blocks that traditional talk therapy may not touch as effectively.
